The apps had to be created with the intention of trying to enhance the opportunities that the city had to offer.
The ideas that were presented to the panel ranged from smart services, participation, sustainable energy, and pharmacies. Sumocoders were awarded the first prize, for their innovative app which displays the hotspots that are most frequented by individuals in, and around Ghent. The second prize was awarded to 9K, who created a tool which can be used in urban development.
The international jury, which compromised of representatives from Russia, Greece, the Netherlands, and France rewarded a team of students from the University of Ghent with a prize for building an app that worked to locate the position of pharmacies. Great emphasis was placed on getting national and European individuals to create an environment to allow for this app to flourish.
It was also a great opportunity to expose ideas to relevant stakeholders, and create a networking environment.
